The series of candy paintings evolved out of my food still lives. \nI work directly from nature\, instead of using photography as a reference.The paintings are all oil on canvas\, gallery wrapped on heavy stretchers. My main focus is capturing the effects of light on form\, texture and color. I also try to make the paint itself beautiful\, and to feel\, not like photo realism\, but as rich\, sensuous oil painting.

DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is pleased to announce “Moments of Silence\,” an exhibition of small oil paintings by Douglas Newton. \nThese paintings invite sustained contemplation. Some are from observed reality. Others are mostly from his imagination. They are all painted over days and weeks of concentration and creativity. While his subjects from life are recognizable\, he eschews photo realism in favor of building up a richness of color and sumptuousness of form. \nARTIST STATEMENT:\nI paint subjects that have unexpected beauty that I translate into oil paint. I paint from my imagination and also from reality. I also have a series on candies and their wrappers\, focusing on their translucency and reflections. In all these paintings\, my emphasis is on light\, color\, texture and atmosphere. \nSome of the paintings are simple\, direct compositions. Others become almost abstract in their complexity. Before that\, I had a career as an advertising art director. \nAt first\, I worked in a “suburban surrealism” mode\, painting the American landscape\, houses and gardens\, mostly from my imagination. I have also drawn and painted extensively from the figure. At the same time\, I began painting still lives\, mostly food\, toys and household objects. Gradually\, the still life painting became my main interest. The series of candy paintings evolved out of my food still lives. \nI work directly from nature\, instead of using photography as a reference.The paintings are all oil on canvas\, gallery wrapped on heavy stretchers. My main focus is capturing the effects of light on form\, texture and color. DESCRIPTION:The Little Garden is a beginners study group dedicated to recognizing our relationship with god through one another. Our format is structured to introduce and apply the principles and methods of A Course In Miracles in our daily lives. To uncover the principles\, we study portions of the text.  To apply them\, we practice workbook lessons. Each week\, we meditate using a workbook lesson\, and then study a principle or a workbook lesson\, alternating between text and lessons. We also invite students to speak on their experience with a lesson or principle\, focusing on a Miracle or Miracles they have experienced. There is no fee to attend; however\, a contribution to support the cost of the group is appreciated.

SUMMARY:One Year Program Leading to Becoming an Interfaith Minister
DESCRIPTION:This program focuses upon the skills and knowledge needed to be a modern interfaith minister. By eliminating semester breaks and vacations\, the course is equipped to concentrate in one year a solid\, qualifying course in interfaith. \nUpon successful completion of the program\, students are ordained as ministers and are eligible to register legally as clergy. Thus\, graduates are eligible to add the honorific “Reverend” to any existing titles and honors they have achieved in their professions. \nThe program is provided as a series of monthly weekend classroom sessions at the Seminary’s office in New York City. Timely completion of monthly homework assignments is required. All students\, at the end of the course\, will be expected to attend a four-day retreat during which\, among other activities\, they will be given an oral examination based on the year’s studies. A thesis is also required. Ordination normally follows the day after the retreat. \nWe now have three tracks of study: \n1. The Comparative Religions Track \n2. A Course in Miracles Track and \n3. DESCRIPTION:Traditionally prepared ceremonial cacao is a magical and sacred treat. It is not at all like drinking a regular cup of hot chocolate.
