SUMMARY:Exhibition: Whispering Lights — Art by Erika Mizukami
DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is pleased to announce “Whispering Lights\,” an exhibition of art work by Erika Mizukami. \nFinding inspiration in light\, she began making art on her own and is self-taught. So far\, she has made more than 100 works in this way. We selected about 10 works from all\, and will show them at CRS. The works represented here are colorful oil pastels in complex patterns\, created by scratching\, reminiscent of mandalas. Their purpose is to invite unity and harmony into the mind and also a sense of playfulness. \nAn Opening Reception with the artist will take place on Saturday\, July 11\, 2015 from 6 – 8 pm.  Pianist Maurizio Najt will perform \nThe exhibition will remain on display through August 17\, 2015. \nAbout the Artist \nBorn in New York and raised in Tokyo\, Erika Mizukami has been drawing since 2010. \nAfter experiencing self-hypnosis and guided meditation several years ago\, Erika started experiencing beautiful visions every night as she was lying down. Images were like the ones in a kaleidoscope\, vast\, spacious\, unlimited\, smooth\, a continuation of simple motifs within a slow movement. She was fully aware of her surroundings\, never tired from sleepless nights\, leaving her with a clear mind and emotional detachment. \nFully connected with the presence of Love\, Freedom\, and Stillness\, Erika explored the idea of capturing these images and wanted to share with others not only the images but the senses of healing she had in the experience. Drawing them on a sketchbook with a pencil was not an accurate way of sharing them. \nA year after\, she met a Mandala artist who recommended to her a book on how to draw a mandala. The instructions of drawing were so complicated for Erika\, so she placed the mandala interactions away and started playing with a compass to draw one simple circle in many ways. She loved it! However it was not quite yet able to reflect her visions. \nDuring the same year Erika took a course on Metaphysical Science. She had an assignment of expressing emotions in art. She picked oil pastels to do the project. It struck her! Since then she uses oil pastels and compass to draw the images. “When I scratched off the line\, the color appears underneath of black coated paper. It’s like the light appears in the dark.” \nEven though her artwork does not exactly mirror the images she sees in her mind\, “What I have experienced with drawing these particular artworks is far beyond my imagination. I just took inspired action every each moment to create shape and even choosing color.â€_ \nThese artworks are teaching and guiding Erika in so many different aspects of understanding meaning in life and leading her to the original pure essence. When she completes a piece\, she looks at it with completely detachment\, neither like nor dislike\, leaving her for a couple of days with an empty mind\, no sense of judgment but deep love and joy! \nRelationship with all my creation is just being a witness of a process of unfolding flowers. When you see beauty in nature you go speechless\, with no words to express\, a kind of shock\, all thoughts and emotions become powerless and fade a way and I replace them with total acceptance\, being fully connected with something beyond my five senses \nRealizing that her art invites the viewers to the experience of reuniting with the universe as a whole\, Erika has been creating her artworks for people across any boundaries. \n“Creativity enriches my life. I love to inspire people and let them know how life is enjoyable just by taking a little time with the creativity we are all born with!” \nArtist Statement \nThe process of creating my work is one of returning myself back to the original nothingness. Choosing motifs\, colors\, and patters for each little step of drawing in a long\, simple repetition is made possible when I perceive a subtle and quiet inspiration coming from within. In drawing\, I let self-talk bubble up to consciousness from the innermost realm within\, and gently liberate each of them into the light. \nOnce the work is finished\, I realize that I have been experiencing the authentic nothingness. Which means no words\, no critiques\, no voices\, and no emotions emerge from my work toward me when seeing it for a couple of days after the completion. It seems as if a physical relationship between “meâ€_the creator and my work the created\, which had been supporting the process of my creation\, reveals its real nature:  the original nothingness. \nAfter the experience of nothingness\, my consciousness gradually returns to the world of words and emotions where my work visually expresses its beauty. \nEvery time I finish my work\, I deeply feel that my creative process strengthens the mutual trust between my Self and what’s beyond my Self\, namely divinity. Not only my finished work but every little piece of the work\, every event I went through in the process of creating it\, every color\, and every figure outside the work now tell me the truth of the universe in a totally different way. The entire universe\, including my work and myself\, plays a role as catalyst to enrich the bond\, or a mutual trust\, between me and what leads me to create my works. This bond\, the trust\, is an experience of oneness between my singularity and the entire universe. My works are a series of invitations to this oneness.

SUMMARY:Sound Alchymist presents: Crystal Bowl Activations
DESCRIPTION:Yunji Shin is launching a brand new monthly sound healing performance initiative in the amazing new space called the White Room at CRS. The space has a canyon-shaped ceiling creating sound resonance that echoes powerfully for the ultimate healing experience. \nTraverse the unique soundscape of Alchemy crystal bowls\, indigenous rattles/shakers\, planetary hand chimes\, Native American flute and channeled singing/chanting and breathwork. You will not leave the room the same\, as your vibrational body shifts to its highest frequency state. We will collectively voyage into a multi-sensory sound journey\, as Yunji creates sacred space for you to cleanse\, release\, and let go. \nThe human body undergoes daily stress and trauma from the urban landscape\, absorbing toxic frequencies and noise pollution such as vehicle engines\, honking\, airplanes roaring through the sky and computer/cell phone radiation to name a few. Emotional and mental blocks are also held energetically and physically within the body in the form of vibrations. Witness its release after a sound healing session. \nMuch of quantum physics is now finally proving everything is in a state of vibration including matter\, thoughts and consciousness. These are the same concepts the ancients held thousands of years ago which Sound Alchymist is bringing back to the modern world. Experience the re-emerging of ancient technology. \nThe human body is made up of at least 65% water. A ripple effect takes place when water vibrates – the same as throwing a pebble in the water or placing a bowl of water on top of bass speakers that begin to shake – the same impact occurs within your cellular bodies during a sound healing but with healing frequencies. This non-invasive form of therapy has brought relaxation\, pain relief and mental/emotional clarity to some\, and to others – transcendental visions and messages. \nSound Alchymist is here to facilitate homeostasis and equilibrium using planetary and Earth frequencies along with indigenous/shamanic sounds and practice. \nSound meditation has also been proven to calm the nervous system\, decrease  stress hormones such as cortisol\, fight-or-flight response/adrenaline\, and increase oxygen flow to the brain and body as studied by medical Western doctors. \nGet ready to undergo altered states of consciousness and the micro/macro-cosmic frequencies of the Divine\, embodied within all of us. \nBIO: Yunji Shin is the Sound Alchymist\, certified sound practitioner and healer/channel\, using breathwork\, channeled voice and singing\, Alchemy crystal bowls and various healing instruments as a vehicle to induce deep states of trance. Studying under sound healing pioneer and Grammy-nominated\, Jonathan Goldman\, she continues to explore other modalities particularly within the shamanic realm\, integrating indigenous practice to healing and activating the multi-dimensional body. She is also certified in Acutonics\, a planetary tuning fork system used on the meridian points. Returning from a transformational journey in Ireland\, her instruments are charged and activated from the sacred and ancient Stone Circles of the Celtic mysteries. She will be going on a sacred sound retreat in August for 16 days on the river of the Grand Canyon to Free her Voice with other singers\, sound healers and musicians from around the world – Nature’s amphitheater! Sound Alchymist is here to bring the Sacred back to everyday living. \nExchange: $20 cash at the door

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Moments of Silence Paintings by Douglas Newton
DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is pleased to announce “Moments of Silence\,â€_an exhibition of small oil paintings by Douglas Newton. \nThese paintings invite sustained contemplation. Some are from observed reality. Others are mostly from his imagination. They are all painted over days and weeks of concentration and creativity. While his subjects from life are recognizable\, he eschews photo realism in favor of building up a richness of color and sumptuousness of form. \nARTIST STATEMENT: \nI paint subjects that have unexpected beauty that I translate into oil paint. I paint from my imagination and also from reality. I also have a series on candies and their wrappers\, focusing on their translucency and reflections. In all these paintings\, my emphasis is on light\, color\, texture and atmosphere. \nSome of the paintings are simple\, direct compositions. Others become almost abstract in their complexity. All\, I hope\, help us see the unexpected beauty in everything around us. \nDOUGLAS NEWTON \nhttp://www.douglasnewtonpaintings.com \ne-mail: dnewton456@gmail.com \nDOUGLAS NEWTON BIOGRAPHY: \nI have been painting seriously for about thirty years and full time for fifteen. Before that\, I had a career as an advertising art director. \nAt first\, I worked in a “suburban surrealismâ€_mode\, painting the American landscape\, houses and gardens\, mostly from my imagination. I have also drawn and painted extensively from the figure. At the same time\, I began painting still lives\, mostly food\, toys and household objects. Gradually\, the still life painting became my main interest. The series of candy paintings evolved out of my food still lives. \nI work directly from nature\, instead of using photography as a reference. The paintings are all oil on canvas\, gallery wrapped on heavy stretchers. My main focus is capturing the effects of light on form\, texture and color. I also try to make the paint itself beautiful\, and to feel\, not like photo realism\, but as rich\, sensuous oil painting.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Paintings by Douglas Newton
DESCRIPTION:CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) is pleased to announce “Moments of Silence\,” an exhibition of small oil paintings by Douglas Newton. \nARTIST STATEMENT:\nI paint subjects that have unexpected beauty that I translate into oil paint. \nDOUGLAS NEWTON\nhttp://www.douglasnewtonpaintings.com\ne-mail: dnewton456@gmail.com \nDOUGLAS NEWTON BIOGRAPHY: \nI have been painting seriously for about thirty years and full time for fifteen.
