\nThe showing is the culmination of a 10-week workshop taught by butoh artist Mariko Endo Reynolds. The evening’s program will consist of a series of exercises and improvisations demonstrating how a body can develop a strong presence and how that can be used in performance. It’s a great opportunity to learn what butoh is all about and how its principles and training methods can be used to enrich performance work of all kinds.
\nMariko Endo Reynolds is a professional Japanese Butoh Dancer who trained with Akira Kasai, one of the co-founders of the Butoh movement. She has toured Japan and the United States as a principal dancer in one of Japan\u2019s representative Butoh companies, Dairakudakan. Besides teaching Butoh in Company SoGoNo Butoh Workshop, Mariko has been developing a performance project for children with special needs. She is collaboratoring with legendary sound artist Liz Phillips, one of the first artists to make interactive sound sculptures, on a work that will premiere June 2nd and 3rd, 2012 at Roulette Brooklyn. \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
