CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) invites you to its annual Holiday Party on Saturday, Dec 10. The celebration will consist of two parts:
\nPART 1 from 5 – 7 pm \u2014 a series of short talks and dinner\u00a0(tickets are $25 and include admission to the part 2 reception as well)
\nPART 2 from 7 – 9 pm \u2014 a wine reception\u00a0(tickets $10, children free)
\nCRS Founder\u00a0Yasuko Kasaki\u00a0will open the event with a short talk about 2011. She will then introduce our two guest speakers: oncology social worker\u00a0Akiko Miyake\u00a0and \u00a0and chef\u00a0Yoshiko Hondo.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ms. Miyake will bravely share her amazing life story:\u00a0 she married right out of school, came to NY with husband and raised two daughters, one diagnosed with autism, and never worked; following the failure of her marriage, she suddenly found herself a single mother of two daughters, isolated in NY with no skills or work prospects; resolutely, she applied to college, earned a Master’s in Social Work, attained the first job of her life at age 45, and then, finally, after all that, she discovered romance, sexual fullfillment and confidence in herself as a woman.
\nMs. Hondo, originally from Tokyo, Japan, came to NY to learn about many different styles of cooking. She worked as the chef at the Hudson River Club and Nomura Executive dining, among others in NYC and the LA area before moving back to Japan where she is now teaches cooking and runs a renowned catering business with many film and entertainment industry clients. Recently, she has been exploring more meaningful ways to prepare and serve food as a means of healing, such as preparing dinners for cancer patients and their families. She starts from the premise that food is love. Now, she is working to establish a non-profit organization to carry out her mission of training and providing chefs who can prepare and serve food as a healing art.
\nFollowing the talks, Ms. Hondo and her team will serve a healthy vegetarian dinner prepared just for us. Seating will be limited to 50, and tickets are on sale now.
\nIf you are unable to make it for the dinner and talk, please drop in any time between 7 and 9 pm for the reception, when we will be able to accommodate more guests.
