CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing) presents a reading\u00a0of a new play with video by\u00a0Yoshiko Chuma & the School of Hard Knocks<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the White Room at CRS. The text is taken from Yoshiko\u2019s collection of works from 2000 \u2013 2015 from Sarajevo, Macedonia, Manipur, Romania, Fukushima, Ramallah, Amman, Kabul, Berlin, Bogota, Maracibo and New York.<\/p>\n

Performances will take place on\u00a0Friday & Saturday, November 20 & 21, 2015 at 7:30 pm and 9 pm.<\/strong>\u00a0The performance is about one hour in duration. Tickets are\u00a0$20 ($15 for students and seniors),<\/strong>\u00a0and there are\u00a0only 15 seats available<\/strong>\u00a0for each performance.<\/p>\n

Designed by\u00a0Clouds AO<\/a><\/strong>, winners of the recent NASA competition to design the\u00a0first inhabitable structure to be built on Mars<\/a>, and opened in June of this year, the\u00a0White Room at CRS<\/strong>\u00a0was named by\u00a0Homes to Love<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0as one of nine studios around the world to \u201cachieve design nirvana.\u201d This performance will be the first theatrical event to be held in the space.<\/p>\n

Yoshiko Chuma, artistic director of The School of Hard Knocks (SOHK), has been a creative force in postmodern performance, traveling and interacting with artists in relatively isolated parts of the world since the 1980\u2019s. She has assembled her\u00a0newest project,\u00a0\u03c0=3.14\u2026First Reading with Three Actresses<\/strong><\/em>, through a creative process called \u201cDry Tech\u201d that emphasizes verbal communication between the artists. Dry Tech traditionally refers to a theatrical rehearsal without the performers, in which the design and technical staff run through the operation of all the technical elements of production, stopping and starting to make adjustments. In contrast, the Chuma-style Dry Tech consists of a meeting, usually not in the performance space, that includes the entire team including performers wherein\u00a0Chuma leads the team exclusively through the verbal calling out of the technical cues and action and extensive discussion of the work. The method\u2014often interview style\u2014investigates the artists\u2019 perspectives and stories\u2014both artistic and personal. This creative process mines material from the team members\u2019 sharing about how they understand the work and how they view themselves in the context of making the work. Elements of this material may\u00a0then be incorporated into the production, enabling\u00a0a multiplicity of\u00a0distinct\u00a0and\u00a0at times\u00a0conflicting voices and viewpoints to emerge and co-exist.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
